WHERE COMMITMENT AND ACTION MEET

Client: FDOT District 6
Miami-Dade County, Florida

SR8262

Project Description:

This Design-Build project included the widening along both SR 826 and SR 836, the construction of a four-level interchange as well as the reconstruction modifications of the Flagler Street/SR 826 and the Milam Dairy Road/NW 72nd Avenue/SR 836 interchanges. The project included the construction of 46 bridges within the interchange and provides motorists direct access to their designated exit without using the expressway. The roadways for both the SR 826 and SR 836 were realigned and completely reconstructed. Along with the alignment changes, the grades for the roadways were also changed. The project included extensive use of MSE walls for the embankments, and pavement designs incorporate Superpave asphalt with lime rock base throughout the project. Of the 46 bridges built as part of the interchange construction, 38 are standard simple span bridges for grade crossings, railroad and ramp crossings and a lake crossing.

This project is the final and largest section of the 12-part Palmetto Expressway Improvement Program which consisted of major construction along a 16-mile corridor. The SR 826 and SR 836 Interchange, used by over 400,000 motorists daily was reconstructed to enhance safety and reduce congestion for motorists using the Interchange.
