Project Description:
Group 168 included three projects the first of which was the Ellis Road Interchange, a new interchange and roadway project beginning .6 miles west of I-95 and connecting the interchange to Ellis Road at John Rodes Boulevard on the east side and St. Johns Heritage Pkwy/US192 on the west side. Construction consisted of two new bridges (Bridge #700239 and #700240), 168 piles, 4 ramps, MSE walls, 2 new box culverts (CD-02 and Bridge #704198), 4 travel lanes, 5 ponds and canal rerouting. The project provides a direct access between I-95 and Melbourne International Airport. The second project, SR50, was a 5-mile milling & resurfacing project with overbuild, shoulder widening, asphalt repair, guardrail replacement and repair, minor drainage work, signal/ITS improvements, replacing bridge expansion joint and new pavement markings. The final project was the Brevard County Pedestrian Lighting Bundle B project which included 4 new poles, 2 foundation removals, 3 luminaire and arm replacements, 10 LED retrofits and one load center relocation.
The project received a 2021 ACEC-FL/ FDOT Outstanding Project Award (Interchange).
