Project Description:
Eisman & Russo, Inc. provided CEI services for this high profile project in Central Florida. The project included widening of one mile of SR 408 from six to ten lanes including widening six bridges, a new pedestrian bridge alongside the Lake Underhill eastbound bridge, replacement of the Conway Road ramp bridge, a new ramp toll plaza, upgrading an existing ramp toll plaza and aesthetic treatments with special Gateway features on the Lake Underhill Bridge. Roadway improvements included drainage, lighting, fiber-optic communications, traffic cameras, signage and aesthetic sound walls. The Lake Underhill bridge consisted of parallel structures 1,700 feet long with typical span lengths of 80 feet using AASHTO Type IV beams, the foundations are 30” pre-cast pre-stressed concrete piling with test piles up to 275 feet long and pile bents. The Gateway features consisted of pylons and cable stays between the two lake bridges. Aesthetic treatments included cast-in-place and pre-cast architectural walls and enclosures which create a consistent look for the SR 408 corridor.
