Client: FDOT District 2
Location: Duval County
Project Description:
Southside Blvd at Gate Pkwy Intersection Improvements included 0.75 miles of reconstruction of urban roadway with a dedicated right lane from eastbound Gate Pkwy to south on Southside Blvd and a crossover U-turn for northbound travel (as pictured). The scope encompassed milling and resurfacing, installation of drill shafts, signals, overhead signs, LED street lighting, new pedestrian controllers, thermoplastic, underground conduits, and interconnect fiber optics. Additionally, the project entailed drainage improvements, the relocation of a 5G tower, subsoil excavation, sidewalk construction, curb & gutter installations, and embankment work. Notably, the project faced challenges posed by the heavy traffic volume with approximately 33,000 vehicles passing through the intersection daily, necessitating additional MOT measures and the installation of final guide signs to assist the traveling public through the project.
Other components of the project grouping included Beach Blvd at Eve Dr, a 0.50-mile reconstruction to construct a “Michigan” left only loop or “bowtie” configuration to extend queue lengths; included 10’ shared use paths, drainage, street lighting, signals (drill shafts), underdeck bridge lighting, and new ped controllers. The Lane Avenue resurfacing project, spanning 2.6 miles from Wilson to Normandy, addressed a 4-lane urban minor arterial road with median turn lanes and encompassed the construction of eight intersections constructed in four phases.
